    Judith Kuckart was born in 1959, in Schwelm, Westphalia. She trained as a dancer at the Folkwang School in Essen, then studied literature and theatre in Cologne and Berlin. Between 1985 and 1998, she produced seventeen plays with her own Skoronel Dance Studio, contributing as a writer, dancer, choreographer and director, and performing them on German and on international stages. Since 1998, she has worked as a freelance stage director. In 1990, she published her first novel, “Wahl der Waffen”, which tells the story of two women associated with the Red Army Faction. This will appear in Turkish translation in 2016, and will be presented at the Istanbul Book Fair. Besides her novels, Judith Kuckart also writes plays and radio plays. She is a member of PEN Germany. Her works, which have been translated into many languages, have won several awards, including the Villa Massimo Fellowship (1997), the German Critics Prize (2004) and the Annette von Droste Prize (2012). Kuckart lives in Berlin and Zurich.
