Oscar Brenifier was born in 1954 in Oran, Algeria. He obtained a bachelor's degree in biology at the University of Ottawa, followed by a PhD in philosophy at the Sorbonne. Brenifier is an expert in philosophy teaching and practice as well as philosophy for children, and conducts philosophy workshops for different levels of schools (primary schools, high schools and colleges) in over thirty countries including France, Algeria, China, Bulgaria, Ethiopia, Mexico, Russia, Lebanon, Mali, Norway and the US.
In addition to schools, Oscar Brenifier works in civic centers, libraries, prisons and homeless shelters. Brenifier is a subject matter expert in teacher training (philosophy for children, workshops) and as an advisor in philosophy, and lectures in universities around the world, including in Spain, Italy, Norway, Peru and Taiwan.
Brenifier has been the president of Institut de Pratiques Philosophiques since 1994 and is the founder of the International UNESCO 2006 “New Philosophical Practices” conference. His works have been translated to Turkish by Tudem Publishing.
