Susanne Lux grew up reading in her parents’ bookshop. After graduating from high school, she decided to train as a bookseller and 20 years later set up Nimmerland (Neverland), her own bookshop for children and young adults. Not long after she started also to offer a complementary programme of cultural events for children from the ages of 2 to 14. For her cultural work and reading promotion Neverland has repeatedly been awarded awarded the “Children's bookshop of the year” by the German Consortium of Children’s Publishers. The bookshop also bears the biennial “Gütesiegel Leseförderung” (seal of approval for reading promotion). Since 2015 it has been awarded the Deutscher Buchhandlungspreis four times by the Minister for Culture and the Media, including in 2017 the award for best bookstore in Germany.
Susanne Lux is also a member of several juries such as the German Reading Prize, the Leipzig Reading Compass and the Golden Leslie, and is a member of the IG Leseförderung in the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels.
