HONOR AUTHOR AND THEME OF THE 40TH INTERNATIONAL ISTANBUL BOOK FAIR HAS BEEN DETERMINED

Honorary Author and Theme determined
This year’s honorary author has been chosen as, Nermin Abadan Unat, an academician, lawyer, sociologist, writer, and distinguished figure who has made notable contributions to the field of communication sciences in Turkey. During the fair, various panels and interviews will be held on Unat's life and works with his participation.
Scheduled to be held at the Istanbul TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center, the fair will serve as a platform for numerous cultural events and many author autograph sessions. With its rich program and diverse participation from Turkey and abroad, the International Istanbul Book Fair has earned a place in the city’s cultural life a significant gathering. The fair provides an invaluable opportunity for readers and enterprising authors alike to contact various publishers, access discounted books, and meet their favourite authors.
Organized by TÜYAP Fair Organisation Production Co. Inc. in collaboration with the Turkish Publishers Association, this year's fair aims to commemorate the centennial of the Turkish Republic. The honorary guest, the academician and lawyer Nermin Abadan Unat, will also enrich the event with her valuable contribution to various panels, discussions and other activities.
Expected to be flooded with visitors
The fair will be accessible to students, teachers, children, retirees, and disabled individuals free of charge. Opening hours will be from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm on weekdays and from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on weekends. The event will conclude on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at 7:00 pm.

About Nermin Abadan Unat:
Born in Vienna, Nermin Abadan Unat completed her primary education in İzmir Girls' High School in 1940 and then İstanbul University Faculty of Law in 1944. After working for Ulus Newspaper in Ankara for a while, Abadan Unat entered Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences as the first female assistant. She was appointed as associate professor in 1958 and professor in 1962 in the field of political science. Nermin Abadan Unat, who founded the Political Behavior Chair at the SBF, has focused on the problems related to Turkish emigration since 1963, and conducted various researches at home and abroad, apart from political sociology and mass communication. She has published books and articles in Turkish, German and English on this subject. The author, who is also interested in women's studies, represented Turkey in the Council of Europe Commission on Gender Equality between 1978-1999. The author, who worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University for many years, gave lectures at Boğaziçi University on a part-time basis until 2016.
Nermin Abadan Unat, who gave lectures as a visiting professor at various universities in Europe and the USA, was the second president of the International Political Science Association (IPSA) between 1967-1970, and the general president of the Turkish Social Sciences Association between 1978-1982. Abadan Unat, who served as a quota senator in the Turkish Grand National Assembly between 1978-1980, received the High Merit Award by the Federal German Presidency in 1978, Women of Enlightenment in 1998, Fullbright Lifetime Academic Service in 2000, Kultur University Woman with a Heart in 2004, Marmara Lifetime Achievement in 2006, Istanbul Beşiktaş City Council Honorable Life in 2010, METU Great Service in 2011, Vehbi Koç Foundation Education in 2012, Bodrum Contemporary Life Support Association in 2014, IU Women's Studies Center in 2015, In 2016, he was deemed worthy of awards such as the Ankara Civil Service Grand Prize.
